Found Money alters routine prepping for Cal Cup Derby

ARCADIA, Calif. – The two-time stakes winner Found Money had a different exercise program Friday in advance of the $250,000 California Cup Derby at Santa Anita on Jan. 30.
Trained by Doug O’Neill, Found Money galloped a half-mile in 1:00.40 before working a half-mile in 49.60 seconds. The workout is expected to be Found Money’s last major exercise before the Cal Cup Derby at 1 1/16 miles.
Owned by breeders Paul and Zillam Reddam, Found Money has won 3 of 8 starts and earned $292,100. He won the King Glorious Stakes for California-breds at a mile at Los Alamitos in December but was fourth behind Collected in the Grade 3 Sham Stakes here Jan. 9. Found Money was near the front with a quarter-mile remaining and faded in the stretch.
“Turning for home, he looked like a winner,” O’Neill said.
The Cal Cup Derby is one of five stakes for California-breds on Jan. 30. The program includes the $250,000 Cal Cup Turf Classic at 1 1/8 miles.
