Fortified Effort notches fifth stakes victory

Coady Photography Fortified Effort paid $2.20 in winning the Colorado Derby on Sunday.
Fortified Effort won the fifth stakes race of his career Sunday when he led throughout for a 1 1/4-length win over Speedo Te in the $30,000 Colorado Derby at Arapahoe Park.
It was another three-quarters of a length back to Caesar’s Game in third.
Fortified Effort ($2.20) set a pressured pace on a sealed track labeled “wet-fast,” going through an opening quarter in 24.38 seconds, a half-mile in 49.21, and six furlongs in 1:14.31. The winner went on to cover the 1 1/16 miles in 1:46.85.
Scott Stevens was aboard for trainer Kevin Eikleberry.
Eikleberry co-owns Fortified Effort with Lloyd Yother, William Matthews, and Marvin Fleming.
Fortified Effort has now won 7 of 14 starts and earned $212,108. He is a son of Ez Effort.
