Fort Erie slated for 40-day meet in 2015

Fort Erie Race Track has announced a 40-day race meet for 2015, which is a two-week extension of the 2014 season.

Racing is scheduled for Tuesdays and Sundays throughout the meet, which runs from June 2 through Oct. 20. Tuesday racing will have a 4:15 p.m. Eastern post time until Sept. 1, when it will be rolled back to 1:50 p.m. until closing day. Sunday racing will be conducted with a 1:50 p.m. start time.

A new 20 percent bonus is slated to be implemented for eligible Ontario-sired horses, as part of the Ontario Racing Commission’s Thoroughbred Horse Improvement Program.

The 80th running of the $500,000 Prince of Wales Stakes, the second leg of the Canadian Triple Crown, will take place on Tuesday, July 28.

The backstretch will open for training May 1.
