There’s a great opportunity on Friday night on DRF Tournaments to win a free trip to Australia. It’s a free-roll contest, sponsored by Sky Racing World, and presented in conjunction with one of the highlights of the Australian racing season, the Championships.

The winner will receive airfare, tickets, and hotel accommodations for a three-night stay in Sydney for the Everest, to be held at Randwick in October 2018. The total prize is valued at $6,000.

The contest, which takes place Friday night Eastern for races Saturday afternoon in Australia, will utilize an unusual format, a modified version of the all-in games that DRFT regulars are used to. The tournament, like the Championships, will be split over two days, Friday, April 6, and Friday, April 13. All picks for this Friday’s races must be put in before the scheduled post time of the first race and can’t be changed once the races start. Once next week’s races are drawn and uploaded, players will then be able to put in selections for the April 13 races, but once again they won’t be able to alter those picks once the second day of races has commenced. All the wagers will be mythical $2 win-place bets on one horse in each of the selected contest races. The player with the highest total will be declared the winner.

This will be the fifth year of the Championships, a series of 12 races for different age groups over different distances, like the Breeders’ Cup. It is a showcase for the best Australian runners, and should attract an international cast. The site of the event is Royal Randwick, with the beautiful city of Sydney as a backdrop. The total purse money for the Championships is over $15 million U.S.

Players looking to get an edge over their competition might want to check out the handicapping session with Australian form expert Jason Witham, sponsored by Sky Racing World, that will be taking place Wednesday night at 6 Eastern. The replay of the handicapping session can be viewed on YouTube.

Past-performances for the Championships will be available at DRF Tournaments.

One player who will be competing on Friday night will be hoping that lightning strikes twice. Last October, Mike Bourke won his way to the Championships on DRFT via a similar free-roll contest on the Everest card. He was scheduled to be on his way mid-week to the land down under.

“If I can squeeze it in, I hope to handicap the races for Saturday on the 17-hour leg of our flight,” said Bourke, who is attending the Championships with his wife, Jessie.

The Bourkes have decided to keep the good times rolling after the Championships with a little extra travel – an eight-day visit to New Zealand.
