It’s all come down to this – there are just a few precious days left in the summer meets. If you want to see a horseplayer cry, show up for the last race on closing day at Del Mar or Saratoga. Sure, for many horseplayers the few days of the Kentucky Downs meet will provide a salve, but the best medicine of all might be to look ahead to Keeneland’s fall meet, specifically its contest weekend. On Saturday, DRF Tournaments will host a qualifier for the Fall Challenge at Keeneland. Players put up $410 and 1 in 10 entries will receive a $3,000 contest seat plus $500 in travel money. The contest itself takes place Sunday, Oct. 14. Keeneland also offers a lower buy-in event the day before, making that an enticing weekend for players to visit Lexington, Ky., which is always a good idea for horseplayers anyway. Players planning Keeneland visits should make it a point to check out the website visithorsecountry.com and book farm tours there. Saturday also will see a Round 1 event for the Pegasus contest, a two-day live-bank event held at Gulfstream Park on Jan. 25-26, 2019. All the prize money will be added – players have to put up $12,000 in bankroll to compete. It’s a high-roller game for sure, but it’s also a fantastic opportunity for players. Saturday’s game costs $220, and 1 in 5 will receive a $960 entry to the direct qualifier held Saturday, Sept. 29. From that online tournament, 1 in 15 will win their $12,000 bankrolls and $500 in travel. On Sunday on DRFT, players can qualify online for the Orleans Fall Classic qualifier, a three-day mythical money event to be held at the Orleans Las Vegas from Oct. 11-13. For Sunday’s qualifier, players will put up $120 and 1 in 10 entries will receive a prize package worth $1,000 – a $500 berth in the Fall Classic plus $500 in travel. Also on Sunday, there’s a chance to win into the World Championship of Handicapping. The date of the 2019 event is unknown, but we do know it will take place online and there will be no takeout in the finals. For Sunday’s qualifier, players put up $580 and 1 in 10 will win their $5,000 buy-ins. There is a full list of games happening this weekend at DRF Tournaments. Other options include feeders, credit builders, winner-take-alls, and matchups, where players compete against just one other player. A day of wagering action for a controlled cost is just a few clicks away.
