ARCADIA, Calif. - Former jockey Corey Black, who most recently worked as an exercise rider, was suspended indefinitely by Santa Anita's stewards on Saturday after failing to appear for a scheduled hearing on Friday to answer charges of being "engaged in the use of drugs," according to the ruling. According to the stewards - Grant Baker, Luis Juaregui, and Kim Sawyer - Black, 50, failed to show for the hearing, which followed California Horse Racing Board investigators filing a complaint against Black. Black is denied access to all CHRB premises, according to the ruling. Black rode professional through Nov. 2000, winning 1,519 races. His mounts earned more than $53 million. His biggest wins came aboard Best Pal in the Hollywood Gold Cup and Flying Continental in the Jockey Club Gold Cup. He also won Grade 1 races aboard the females Annoconnor, Infinidad, and Stop Traffic. He is the younger brother of Kenny Black, a former jockey who now trains.
