Former Godolphin vet Michael Hauser dies
Michael Hauser, a prominent veterinarian who tended to a host of high-profile horses during his tenure with Godolphin Racing, died last Friday in Oregon, confirmed longtime friend Tom Albertrani. Hauser succumbed to complications from a recent surgery.
Hauser spent some of his veterinary career in Dubai and England on behalf of Godolphin and during that time he worked with such Grade 1 or Group 1 winners as Daylami, Dubai Millennium, Fantastic Light, and Street Cry. Hauser was also involved in equine research, and about a year ago spent time practicing in New York.
“We were able to reunite again for a little while this past year or so,” said Albertrani, a trainer based in New York.
Albertrani first met Hauser in the late 1980s when Albertrani was working as an assistant to trainer Bill Mott.
“Mike eventually went overseas to Dubai and worked with Godolphin,” Albertrani said. “I later joined him and we worked alongside each other with the Godolphin team. He was such a great guy, on the job and off the job. He was just a great person to be around.”
Albertrani also said Hauser was a gifted veterinarian.
