Forever Unbridled breezes with eye on Oaks
LEXINGTON, Ky. – Forever Unbridled is on the alternates list for the Kentucky Oaks, but what? Is Dallas Stewart supposed to be worried?
The last two years, Stewart sent out longshots to run second in the Kentucky Derby only after they made the field because of defections of horses with higher preference. Those Stewart-trained colts were Golden Soul, second at 34-1 to Orb in 2013, and Commanding Curve, second at 37-1 to California Chrome in 2014.
Forever Unbridled, bred and owned by Charles Fipke, has finished respectably (second, third, third) when defeated by I’m a Chatterbox in her last three starts, all stakes at Fair Grounds. The daughter of Unbridled’s Song breezed five furlongs Friday in 1:01.20 over a fast track at Churchill Downs. As of Friday, she was No. 15 on the list of Oaks prospects, with the field limited to 14 starters.
“Let’s just say we’re hopefully confident we’ll get in,” said Stewart.
