Forevamo gets class relief in allowance
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLE
LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Forevamo spent the first half of his 3-year-old season in heady company. Now trainer Al Stall Jr. is trying to determine whether more races against some of the best of his class should be in store for the Florida-bred colt.
Forevamo, with Florent Geroux riding from post 1, will take a rare drop in class Sunday at Churchill Downs when favored in the fifth of 10 races, a $55,500, first-level allowance at 1 1/16 miles.
“We’re still trying to see whether he wants two turns,” Stall said. “We’ll pivot off this race in how we proceed the rest of the year.”
Forevamo most recently was second behind Sharp Azteca in the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile on the May 7 Kentucky Derby undercard. Stall then sent him out for nearly three weeks of rehabilitation at the Kesmarc equine facility in Lexington, Ky.
“He’s come back in great shape,” Stall said. “Obviously, he’s a pretty nice horse. I’m just not sure what the ideal distance is for him.”
Forevamo, owned by the Brittlyn Stables of Star Guitar fame, has faced Exaggerator, Gun Runner, Mo Tom, and Tom’s Ready while competing mostly in stakes during his eight-race career. He will be among the 15 or so horses Stall will take to Saratoga after the Churchill spring meet ends July 2.
The Sunday feature drew a field of nine 3-year-olds as the leadoff race in the 20-cent Single Six (races 5-10), which offered a carryover jackpot of $622,389 entering Friday.
The allowance with Forevamo is the first of two on a card that starts at 12:45 p.m. Eastern. The second allowance, for older turf horses, is carded as the ninth.
After Sunday, Churchill goes dark for three days before the final three-day stretch of the 38-day meet begins with a Twilight Thursday program.
