Forest Mouse surges to Winsham Lad victory

Forest Mouse delivered as the 124-pound highweight Saturday in the $65,000 Winsham Lad Handicap at Sunland Park, where he darted to a 3 1/4-length win over Ol Winedrinker Who. It was another length back to Get a Notion in third.

The Winsham Lad Handicap was a mile race for 4-year-olds and up.

Forest Mouse ($4.60) was content to sit off Classy Cam and Plot Twist, who shared the lead through fractions of 23.38 seconds for the opening quarter and 47.73 for the half-mile. Forest Mouse overtook them and went on to cover the distance on a fast track in 1:39.35.

Ry Eikleberry was aboard the winner for Solitaire Stable and trainer Henry Dominguez.

Forest Mouse has now won 23 races from 55 career starts. He earned $39,000 on Saturday to push his bankroll to $855,687. Forest Mouse is a 9-year-old horse by Teton Forest and was bred in Kentucky by E.H. Beau Lane III.
