Foreign import Lazzam moving into Baltas's barn
Lazzam, second in the United Arab Emirates 2000 Guineas in Dubai in February, was recently acquired for approximately $75,000 and will join trainer Richard Baltas’s stable in California this week.
Lazzam was sold at the Tattersalls Autumn horses in training sale in England last month to Jamie Lloyd and David Meah. Lloyd, a former trainer in Southern California, is a bloodstock agent in England. Meah, also active in bloodstock, is Baltas’s assistant trainer.
Lazzam, by Archipenko, has one win in 12 starts. He was second in the Al Bastakiya Stakes at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai last March, but was out of the first three in four subsequent starts in Dubai and England, including a sixth in the $2 million UAE Derby last March.
Baltas said on Sunday that Lazzam will be pointed for the Del Mar autumn meeting that begins Friday.
