Forefathers’ first winner comes at Gulfstream Park

Forefathers, a multiple graded stakes-placed half-brother to Grade 1 winner Pioneerof the Nile, was represented by his first winner at stud on Saturday when Home of America won a maiden claiming race at Gulfstream Park by 3 3/4 lengths.

The 2-year-old chestnut filly completed the 4 1/2 furlong race in :52.72 seconds over a fast dirt surface, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 65 in her third career start. Bred in Louisiana by Jay Adcock, Home of America is out of the winning Valid Appeal mare Appealing Andover, who is the dam of five winners from nine foals to race, including stakes winner Megan’s Appeal.

Forefathers, a 9-year-old son of Gone West, stands at Red River Farms in Coushatta, La., for an advertised fee of $2,000. He is represented by 41 foals in his first crop.

The stallion is out of the stakes-winning Lord At War mare Star of Goshen, who also produced multiple Grade 1 winner and 2009 Kentucky Derby runner-up Pioneerof The Nile, by Empire Maker, as well as sire Storm of Goshen. Pioneerof the Nile stands at WinStar in Versailles, Ky.

Bred in Kentucky by Cobra Farm, Forefathers won three of 20 career starts in the U.S. and England for earnings of $200,252. He finished second in the 2007 Swale Stakes and Jerome Handicap, both Grade 2s, and third in the 2008 Grade 3 Bold Ruler Handicap.

Owner Ahmed Zayat purchased Forefathers for $680,000 at the 2005 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga selected yearling sale and campaigned him during his racing career with Nick Zito as his trainer in the U.S.
