GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Danceacide, a 4-year-old Oklahoma-bred filly, became an unusual high-priced claim in last Saturday's ninth race. Bred by her owner, William L. Hobbs, and trained by Kelly Von Hemel, Danceacide showed a win and a third in her two starts, both at Remington Park last fall.

Entered in a $20,000 claiming race Saturday against much more accomplished male rivals, Danceacide was sent off at 8-1, finished seventh, and was claimed by Ken Johnson for owner Robert Hewitt. The claim is the largest made on the Nebraska circuit in recent years.

Regardless of how Danceacide fares during her racing career, she has some residual value as a broodmare. Danceacide is by Slewacide out of the Halo mare Morning Halo, a producer of five winners from five starters. Morning Halo's most successful runner is Splitting Headache, who won the Grade 3 Kent Stakes and more than $221,000.

* Perry Compton escaped serious injury in Sunday's ninth race when his mount, Suave View, broke down while vying for the lead as the field was entering the stretch. The winner, Hawaiian Lullaby with Ken Shino aboard, nearly had her legs knocked out from under her as Suave View fell directly to her outside. Two other runners slipped through inside the accident, while the remainder of the nine-horse field was forced wide to avoid the spill.

* Kelly Von Hemel saddled three winners on Saturday's 11-race card to move to second in the trainer standings with 11 wins, trailing David Anderson, who has 17.

Von Hemel opened the card with Pansy Garden ($10), then scored with American Myth ($5.40) in the eighth race. He capped off the day with Tate's Way's $27 upset in the Dreisbach's-Dowd Mile Handicap.

Compton scored with four mounts Saturday and Ken Shino did the same on Sunday as the two riders continue to distance themselves from the remainder of the field. Compton owns a 59-44 edge over Shino in the standings, and both riders have registered four-win days on four occasions this season.
