Fonner Park track report

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Jockey Ed Cervantes will likely miss the remainder of the Fonner Park meet after breaking his collarbone in an incident after a starting gate malfunction in last Friday's seventh race.

Cervantes, aboard Me and Mr. T., was the first into the gate. After four horses had been loaded, the gates sprang open. Cervantes did not have his feet in the irons and fell heavily on his shoulder about a sixteenth of a mile away from the gate while trying to pull up.

* Ken Shino, second in the rider standings, will miss Friday's races to pick up a ride aboard the Don Von Hemel-trained Sand Ridge at Oaklawn Park. Perry Compton continues to lead the rider standings with a 41-32 victory edge over Shino.

David Anderson and Kelly Von Hemel moved into a tie atop the trainer standings with eight victories each. Milton Gaede and Gordon Hansen are next with seven wins each, while nine other trainers have four or more wins this season.
