Fonner Park cancels Saturday and Sunday

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - An arctic airmass expected to move into the region late Friday has prompted Fonner Park to cancel its live racing cards for both Saturday and Sunday.

Entries for Sunday's card were to be taken Friday morning, but activity at the entry box was very light due to the dismal forecast. Officials made the decision to cancel Saturday's card and a Sunday card was not drawn.

The Bold Accent Stakes scheduled for Saturday will be re-drawn and run next Saturday along with the Ogataul Stakes for Nebraska-breds.

The frigid weather is expected to move into the area Friday evening with snow and sub-zero windchills forecast for both Saturday and Sunday. As of noon Friday, the temperature was around 32 degrees and the nine-race card was set to start at 2 p.m.
