Fonner Park cancels Friday card a day ahead of time due to track conditions

GRAND ISLAND, Neb. - Fonner Park canceled its live program for Friday on Thursday morning due to concerns over the racing surface.

The track endured a heavy, wet snow last weekend and was listed as muddy for both last Friday and Saturday cards. On Sunday, racing was canceled after the first race when the riders elected not to continue because of the track condition.

Rains continued this week and plans now call for a major renovation of the surface when that becomes possible. Plans call for scraping the entire surface back and bringing in truck loads of sand to help disperse the moisture. The weather forecast calls for temperatures in the 50's this weekend with little or no precipitation.
