GRAND ISLAND, Neb. – Trainer Temple Rushton may hold the edge in Saturday’s $10,000 Grasmick Stakes at Fonner Park. The question is which of his uncoupled entry will run best in a wide-open half-mile sprint that drew a field of 10. Rushton sends out 2010 Grasmick winner Kid Rambo for his own Rushton Farms and also saddles Ghost Vapors, owned by Vance Alfrey and Stuart Eskew. The pair will go uncoupled in the wagering, and both bring solid credentials for their first starts of 2014. Kid Rambo put together a mark of 3-3-2 from 9 starts last year with five of his starts coming in mixed company against Quarter Horses around a hook. Ghost Vapors won a pair of non-conditioned allowance races at Arapahoe Park last year, beating Kid Rambo by two lengths in an August meeting. Ghost Vapors may rate a slight edge with the ability to come from just off the leaders.Caneros, Bear Always, Zarby’s Home, Ignore, and Tribal Dreams should all show solid early speed in here.Tribal Dreams, trained by Harlan Walker, was second in this race last year and could loom a solid threat in a race with no clear-cut favorite.Caneros has recency on his side coming off a second at Fair Grounds on Feb. 1. Bear Always, trained by Tyrone Gleason, posted four wins from 11 starts last year.
