Fonner Park: Andersen has four of seven

Bill Hodtwalker|Mar 26, 2009

Trainer David Anderson has a solid grip on the field for the $10,000-added Baxter Stakes at Fonner Park. He will send out four of the seven starters in the six-furlong race for 3-year-olds as uncoupled entrants for his many owners.

Kim Veerhusen will also saddle an uncoupled entry, with Tidal Storm and Sweet Pete both worthy of the favorite's role in this well-matched field.

Tidal Storm won a maiden race by seven lengths at Fonner on March 1 going four furlongs following his arrival from Turfway Park. He returned to be a fast-closing second to Turkey Hunter in the half-mile Bachman Stakes on March 14, a race in which he defeated his stablemate Sweet Pete, who is also in the Baxter field.

Sweet Pete won his maiden at first asking going six furlongs at Fonner on March 6, then returned to be third in the Bachman, a length behind his stablemate. Sweet Pete will be ridden by Larren Delorme, while Tidal Storm will have leading rider Jesus Ponce aboard.

Anderson's four-pronged attack includes Wholelotta Richter, King Tymatt, From the Ashes, and Reach One More.

From the Ashes was a front-running winner of a maiden race at Fonner on Feb. 28 by 5 1/2 lengths and should also be well backed at the windows with Jose Ranilla aboard. That was second career for From the Ashes and the first this year. From the Ashes covered the six furlongs of his maiden win in 1:12.40, the fastest clocking for a Fonner maiden race this season. Last summer in his career debut he was sixth of seven, beaten 27 1/2 lengths, in the State Fair Futurity at Lincoln.

King Tymatt, Wholelotta Richter and Reach One More are all coming out of the Bachman Stakes, having finished fourth, fifth, and seventh.
