ETOBICOKE, Ontario — The Chad Brown-trained New York shipper Fog of War parlayed an ideal inside trip into an important score in Sunday’s Grade 1, $257,350 Summer Stakes at Woodbine. Fog of War ($4.20) punched his ticket to the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf at Churchill Downs in November with the win. With Javier Castellano aboard, he saved ground on the turn in fourth, about three lengths off the leading Wallace. Fog of War awaited room in midstretch, before going by War of Will in deep stretch. He prevailed by three-quarters of a length, in a time of 1:33.90 over the firm turf. “I had a perfect trip,” Castellano said. “This is such a special horse. He’s got so much talent. I like the way he split horses at the quarter pole, and he finished really well. These are the kind of horses you want to ride, with a lot of potential.” The Josie Carroll trainees Nashtrick and Avie’s Flatter finished third and fourth, respectively, after they both took the overland route. Jungle Warrior, the 5-1 second choice, wound up fifth in the 12-horse field. By War Front, the unbeaten Fog of War was a $400,000 Keeneland yearling purchase by owner Peter Brant. He earned $150,000 in the Summer. “Chad Brown and I looked at this horse, and we liked the way he was made,” Brant recalled. “He was a choice of ours, and he’s really come through. He’s a wonderful horse.”
