Focus shifts to regional markets after Keeneland September sale

All eyes in the bloodstock world will turn to Kentucky in the coming weeks for the Keeneland September yearling sale, which will test all levels of the marketplace after the top shelf showed dazzling activity this summer.

Although the majority of horses in the massive September sale catalog were bred in Kentucky, the epicenter of breeding activity in North America, the sale does draw horses from several states, as well as internationally. A number of state and regional programs will still be active throughout the fall finish to this yearling sale season as well.

Fasig-Tipton will be active in a number of states after a record-setting summer in Kentucky and New York. In a twist, the company’s rebranded sale in Maryland has been positioned to wrap up the season.

The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co., the nation’s third major auction house, also takes its turn in the marketplace. Along with the “big three,” a number of regional auction companies will conduct their own sales, including the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society.
