Fm Im a Zatanaz Too necks Sam Houston Futurity
Fm Im a Zatanaz Too was a neck winner over Patriot Games in the Grade 2, $440,600 Sam Houston Futurity on Saturday night in Houston.
The race for Quarter Horses was the richest of the year at Sam Houston.
Fm Im a Zatanaz Too ($6.20) was always prominent while covering 330 yards on a fast track in 16.82 seconds.
Manuel Gutierrez was aboard for Jose Hernandez and trainer Robert Meche.
Fm Im a Zatanaz Too is a Utah-bred son of Tempting Dash. He was the first stakes winner for Hernandez.
"I had bought a few horses in the past, but last year my partners and I purchased 11 yearlings at sales in New Mexico, Texas and Louisiana," Hernandez told publicity at Sam Houston. “FM Im A Zatanaz Too was a $35,000 purchase at the Ruidoso Select Sale. We knew he was a nice horse, but winning this futurity is amazing."
For the win, Fm Im a Zatanaz Too earned $176,240. Hernandez said the horse could point to the futurities at Ruidoso Downs.
Elite Five, who fell during the race, was vanned off, according to the chart from Equibase.
Also on the card, Serendipity Rocks ($32.60) won the Grade 3, $191,000 Sam Houston Derby for Quarter Horses.
