It’s been a memorable Royal Palm meet for Fly the W and his trainer, Bobby Dibona, and both will be out to add to their stellar Gulfstream Park stats in the eighth race Sunday.Fly the W will be looking for his fourth win at the meet in the $25,000 starter allowance at 7 1/2 furlongs on turf, while Dibona can build upon his 36 percent win rate that is tops among the meet’s leading trainers. He is 15 for 42.“Not bad,” Dibona said. “We got a lot of good stuff going on.”The race Sunday drew 12 and carries a claiming option of $35,000. Other leading contenders include Vladislav and Thought, who finished one-two at this level last out, and the stakes-placed Awesome Bourbon.Fly the W has won all three of his starts at the meet, beginning with a starter allowance at 1 1/16 miles on Tapeta on April 27. He proceeded to win a starter at a mile on turf May 24 before moving back to Tapeta and winning over 1 1/16 miles in his most recent out June 28.“He’s had a little extra time between starts,” Dibona said. “It’s a little shorter distance, but I think we’re fine. The horse is a runner, and I don’t think it’s going to matter.” Fly the W will break from post 9. Edgard Zayas is named to ride, but Edgar Perez is scheduled to be in the saddle Sunday.“I got [thrown] a little curve ball because Edgard, who won three in a row on him, is going to be in Colonial riding a stakes,” Dibona said of the Arlington Million card that has been moved to Sunday. “So, I have to change. But it’s all right.” Fly the W could get the right kind of pace setup Sunday. “There’s a lot of speed in the race and he just wants to fall in line,” Dibona said. “If he’s sitting third or fourth, a few lengths from the lead, that’s probably where he likes to be.” Fly the W will be looking for career win No. 20.
