Flores captain in Ascot Challenge

Alan Shuback|Aug 08, 2002

David Flores has been installed as the 8-1 co-second favorite for the Shergar Cup Jockey Challenge at Ascot on Saturday.

Named captain of the six-man Rest of the World Team in the six-race competition, Flores will attempt to improve on his 2001 Shergar Cup performance, when he rode two winners.

Flores, whose teammates include Gerald Mosse and Andreas Suborics, will challenge a Britain/Ireland team captained by 7-2 Challenge favorite Michael Kinane that includes Kieren Fallon and Johnny Murtagh. Flores will ride longshot Transatlantic in the Mile, co-favorite Devious Boy in the seven-furlong Juvenile, 7-1 shot Bandanna in the six-furlong Distaff, 12-1 chance Compton Commander in the two-mile Stayers, and Ashdown Express in the six-furlong Sprint.
