Floral scores upset in Supernaturel Stakes

Randy Goulding|Jul 21, 2020

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Floral paid $14.50 for an upset win over Fully Lent in the $40,000 Supernaturel on Tuesday at Hastings.

With Alex Marti riding, Floral broke alertly and set a moderate pace while being pressured by Fully Lent in the 6 1/2-furlong race for 3-year-old fillies. She posted a half-mile time of 47.39 seconds while holding a one-length advantage over Fully Lent. She was in front by the same margin at the eighth pole and never looked threatened while holding Fully Lent at bay. The final winning margin was 1 3/4 lengths.

Fully Lent broke outward from post 2 into Sangria, then dove toward the rail to try and make the lead. However, Floral got the jump on her, and jockey Amadeo Perez had to steady Fully Lent. The incident may have been the difference in the outcome. Sangria rallied late to finish third in the five-horse field.

The final time over a fast track was 1:17.87

Floral is trained by Craig MacPherson.

The daughter of Bakken is owned by Michal Jillek, Craig Winnick, and Canyon Farms. Floral was bred in British Columbia by Canyon Farms.
