Flint debates stakes for juveniles Four Leaf Chief, Ride n' Reel

Trainer Steve Flint has a number of quality 2-year-olds in his care, and a few of them could see stakes action soon at either Delta or Remington Park. Flint is a private trainer for Whispering Oaks Farm and operates out of the Evangeline Training Center near Lafayette, La.

Four Leaf Chief is a candidate to ship to Delta for the $200,000 Jean Lafitte, a one-mile race Oct. 25 that serves as the track’s prep for its Grade 3, $1 million Jackpot. Four Leaf Chief is a son of Lookin At Lucky who has won 2 of 3 starts, including the $50,000 Louisiana Cup Juvenile at Louisiana Downs on Aug. 2.

“Right now, we’re freshening him up,” Flint said. “We could look at the Jean Lafitte the third week in October. That’s what we’ll probably do with him.”

Four Leaf Chief is from the mare Pentatonic, a Grade 3 winner of more than $600,000.

Ride n’ Reel is a Candy Ride colt who was third by three-quarters of a length in the $75,000 Sunday Silence at Louisiana Downs on Sept. 6.

“We may run him at Remington,” Flint said, citing the $75,000 Kip Deville at six furlongs Sept. 28. “We’ll either run him or possibly Big Top Goldcat.”

Ride n’ Reel is out of Gaily Egret, an earner of more than $1.7 million in Japan whose dam is Kentucky Oaks winner Lite Light.

◗ Louisiana Downs leading rider Richard Eramia was expected to return to the saddle Friday after sustaining an injury when thrown in Thursday’s seventh race. Eramia sustained a gash and had to have stitches on the inside of his left ear, said his agent, Rick Mocklin. “Fortunately, nothing is broken,” Mocklin said. “He was very fortunate to get up and walk away.”

◗ Grade 2 winner Wildcat Red arrived in Oklahoma City late Wednesday afternoon, said trainer Jose Garoffalo. The horse has flown to Remington Park from his Gulfstream base for the Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby on Sept. 28.

◗ Louies Flower, the winner of last year’s $250,000 Springboard Mile at Remington, is possible for the Oklahoma Derby, according to trainer Bret Calhoun.

◗ Remington will not race Wednesday due to the special Sunday program for Oklahoma Derby Day on Sept. 28, said the track’s racing secretary, Mike Shamburg.
