ARCADIA, Calif. – Tentative plans call for undefeated Flightline to resume training in early March, trainer John Sadler said Sunday morning. Flightline won his first three starts by double-digit margins, including the Grade 1 Malibu Stakes on Dec. 26, and was aiming toward the Grade 2 San Carlos on March 5 before a strained hock interrupted his campaign. Indications are the setback is relatively minor. “Everything’s positive,” Sadler said Sunday at Santa Anita. “We’re just waiting, giving him a little time. He’s here, walking, and due to return to the track in two weeks.” Flightline was taken out of training in mid-February after Sadler noticed a change in his gait. X-rays were negative; he was diagnosed with a strained hock. The extent of Flightline’s pause from training depends “on how much time we want to give him. He’s a couple weeks away from going back to the track,” the trainer said Sunday. A 4-year-old son of Tapit, Flightline romped by more than 11 lengths in the Malibu, earning a 118 Beyer. Sadler said the specifics of his campaign will depend on how he trains and getting “caught up for missed time.” The main objective has not changed. The long-range plan for Flightline remains the Grade 1 Metropolitan Handicap on June 11 at Belmont Park. “He’ll make the Met Mile,” Sadler said. :: Win big at Santa Anita: Get DRF Past Performances, Picks, Clocker Reports and Betting Strategies.
