A flattered Majestic Glory tries for BC berth in Rockfel at Newmarket

Steve Andersen|Sep 22, 2021

Majestic Glory kept very good company when she won her stakes debut in the Group 3 Sweet Solera Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Newmarket Racecourse in England on Aug. 7.

Runner-up Winter Beauty impressively won the Grade 1 Natalma Stakes at Woodbine last Sunday to earn a fees-paid berth for the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf at Del Mar on Nov. 5.

Majestic Glory can earn a fees-paid trip for the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf if she obliges as the favorite in Friday’s Group 2 Rockfel Stakes at seven furlongs at Newmarket. The $122,900 Rockfel is the lone race in England that offers a fees-paid berth to the BC Juvenile Fillies Turf.

Majestic Glory has won 2 of 4 starts for trainer Andrew Balding. Doree Tabor recently acquired Majestic Glory, who is by Frankel.

Majestic Glory won her third start in a six-furlong allowance race at Newmarket on July 30. Both of her wins at Newmarket were on the track’s July course, while the Rockfel will be run on the Rowley Mile course. Both courses have uphill finishes, with the Rowley Mile the more testing of the two.

Ryan Moore has been booked to ride Majestic Glory for the first time on Friday.

David Probert, who rode Majestic Glory in the Sweet Solera, is booked to ride at Haydock Park on Friday. In the Sweet Solera Stakes, Majestic Glory overcame traffic issues to win by a length over Winter Beauty.

In the Rockfel, Majestic Glory’s main rivals are Girl On Film, Jumbly, and Oscula.

Girl On Film won a seven-furlong maiden race on the July course on Aug. 7 in her debut, and will be ridden on Friday by Frankie Dettori.

Jumbly is unbeaten in two starts – a maiden race at Leicester in July, and an allowance race at seven furlongs on the synthetic track at Kempton Park on Sept. 3.

Oscula has won 3 of 6 starts, including the Group 3 Prix Six Perfections at seven furlongs at Deauville, France, on Aug. 3. A potential pacesetter, Oscula was third by 1 1/4 lengths as the 7-5 favorite in the Group 2 Prix du Calvados at seven furlongs at Deauville on Aug. 21.

Guineas runner-up in Joel

In the race following the Rockfel, Master of the Seas will be favored in the Group 2 Joel Stakes at a mile in his first start since a second in the Group 1 English 2000 Guineas in May.

Trained by Charlie Appleby for Godolphin Racing, Master of the Seas won the Group 3 Craven Stakes at a mile at Newmarket in April. Godolphin also starts Benbatl, who won the 2019 Joel Stakes and was third last year behind Kameko, who later finished seventh in the BC Mile at Keeneland last November as the 5-1 favorite.
