Flashy Margaritta goes wire to wire in Bold Ruckus Stakes

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Flashy Margaritta led all the way Saturday to take the $125,400 Bold Ruckus Stakes under Patrick Husbands at Woodbine.
Flashy Margaritta set moderate fractions in the six-furlong turf sprint and held off a late surge from Spin the King to prevail by a neck in 1:09.84 over the good ground. Favored Spadina Road rallied wide for third in the nine-horse field of Ontario-sired 3-year-olds.
Flashy Margaritta ($10.10) collected $75,000 for the partnership of Danny Lococo and Mary Biamonte, the wife of trainer Ralph Biamonte.
** Checkered Past notched her first stakes in Saturday’s supporting feature, the $112,600 Trillium, a 1 1/16-mile Polytrack route for fillies and mares.
Checkered Past ($9.30) came from fourth in the seven-horse field to overtake Royal Fury at the eighth pole before scoring by two lengths over that rival in 1:43.29. Savvy Hester finished third, while favored Sisterly Love faded to fourth after setting quick fractions.
Eurico Da Silva rode Checkered Past for Sam-Son Farm and trainer Malcolm Pierce.
“She broke really sharp, and I was concerned that she’d go up there and fight for the lead,” Da Silva said. “But when another horse passed her, she relaxed beautifully in behind. When we turned for home, I had a lot of horse.”
