Flash of Mischief holds off Mocito Rojo in Delta Mile

Flash of Mischief comfortably held off a charging Mocito Rojo for a 1 3/4-length win in the $100,000 Delta Mile on Saturday at Delta Downs.
It was another half-length back in third to Bold Thirst.
The Delta Mile was for 3-year-olds and up.
Flash of Mischief ($3.40), who was facing older horses for the first time in his career, pressed leader Its a Wrap through an opening quarter in 23.49 seconds and a half-mile in 47.61. Flash of Mischief took over through six furlongs in 1:12.74 and was strong to the wire, covering the distance on a fast track in 1:39.93.
Tim Thornton was aboard for trainer Karl Broberg.
It was the fourth win on the card for Thornton and the third on the program for Broberg, it was announced at Delta.
Flash of Mischief came into the Delta Mile off a runner-up finish in the Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby in September at Remington Park. Earlier this year, he won the St. Louis Derby at Fairmount.
Flash of Mischief is a son of Into Mischief who was bred by his owner, Jerry Namy. He has now won 6 of 14 starts for earnings of $478,102.
There were three scratches from the race: Pirate’s Punch, Fighting Seabee, and Twoko Bay.
Racing resumes Wednesday.
