Flash Bak was the fastest qualifier from the Jan. 23 time trials for the Winter Derby. Owned by Jim Streelman, who races as Dutch Masters III, and trained by Jaime Gomez, Flash Bak made his third appearance in a major final in the Winter Derby.
Last September, Flash Bak was ninth in the $3 million All American Futurity at Ruidoso Downs on Sept. 7, and was promoted to seventh after a rival was disqualified for causing interference.
Flash Bak, a gelding by the One Famous Eagle stallion Moon in the Eagle, has won 5 of 9 starts and earned $536,126.
Gomez said Flash Bak may not race again until the summer, with the All American Derby at Ruidoso Downs and the Los Alamitos Super Derby in the fall as goals. Flash Bak must be supplemented to the Super Derby for $30,000 this summer.
