Flash and Roll wins Golden State Million
CYPRESS, Calif. - Flash and Roll, seventh in the Ruidoso Futurity in June, ran a near-perfect race in Sunday’s $976,750 Golden State Million Futurity at Los Alamitos for her first stakes win.
Ridden by G.R. Carter, Jr., Flash and Roll led from the start of the 400-yard race, holding a half-length advantage throughout and winning by that margin over Jess Macho Corona, who was third in the $1,020,000 Ed Burke Million Futurity at Los Alamitos in June.
The third betting choice in a field of 10, Flash and Roll ($11.60) was timed in 19.66 seconds for her fourth win in five starts, all for owner Scott Bryant of Texas and trainer Justin Joiner.
Jess Macho Corona finished a half-length in front of 27-1 Apollitical Pence, who was third in the field of 10. Favorite Motion, the 9-5 favorite and fastest qualifier, finished fourth, beaten a length.
Flash and Roll won a division of the All American Futurity trials at Ruidoso Downs in August, but did not run quickly enough to earn a berth in the final. The filly won her Los Alamitos debut in a division of the Golden State Million Futurity trials on Oct. 21.
Flash and Roll was one of five fillies in the Golden State Million. By First Moonflash, Flash and Roll has earned $440,255.
