Filibuster Hanover was victorious as the public choice in Sunday night's C$182,500 Confederation Cup for 4-year-old male pacers at Flamboro Downs, but had to sweat out an inquiry to seal the deal. Driven by Yannick Gingras, Filibuster Hanover shot to the lead from post three and seated outside challenger Western Joe (Doug McNair) into the pocket before the 26 2/5 opening quarter.  With fellow Ron Burke trainee Eddard Hanover (Louis-Philippe Roy) coming first-up off the second turn, Gingras was able to steal a breather with last year's Little Brown Jug winner, getting to the half in just 55 4/5. Things remained pretty much the same to the 1:24 three-quarters and on to the final bend, with Eddard Hanover sitting first-up and Western Joe pocketed behind the pace-setter, and although Western Joe had a shot up the passing lane in the stretch, Filibuster Hanover held sway, winning by about half a length in 1:51 4/5. Then the post-race drama started as the judges looked into possible pylon violations by both Filibuster Hanover and Western Joe on the far turn.  After a lengthy deliberation, the judges determined that Filibuster Hanover had gone inside one pylon and hit another one, which is not a violation, but Western Joe went inside two consecutive pylons and was lapped-on by Eddard Hanover at the wire, meaning Western Joe had to be placed third, with Eddard Hanover elevated to the runner-up position.  Rounding out the top five finishers were Bags To Riches (Jody Jamieson) and Odds On Delray (Sylvain Filion). "I didn't see (the inquiry) at all, but I'm glad it went the way it went," said assistant trainer Mickey Burke Jr.  "The horse raced super. "This horse is still getting into his own yet.  Getting this race here, the Prix D'Ete, and the Graduate Series (restricted 4-year-old races), this is a good thing for him.  It's a good teaching time, and it's a little easier for him.  Right now he's showing a lot of power and speed and he's happy.  We'll see what happens but we're hopeful.  That's the goal, getting him up there racing against the next level." Filibuster Hanover is a gelded son of Somebeachsomewhere owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC., Joe Di Scala Jr., J And T Silva Stables LLC., and Weaver Bruscemi LLC.  This was Filibuster Hanover's 10th career victory, and he has now earned C$985,318.  He returned $3.00 to win.
