Flamboro: Engblom-trained exacta in Juravinski Memorial Cup final
?q=100)
Huntinthelastdolar and Yannick Gingras made two aggressive moves before the opening quarter and led the rest of the way to capture the C$263,000 Charles Juravinski Memorial Cup at Flamboro Downs on Sunday night in a brisk 1:50 mile. The 4-year-old by Huntsville defeated stablemate All Class, with Seven Colors finishing third in the field of nine.
Gingras had Huntinthelastdolar energized at the outset, gaining control on the opening turn briefly before yielding to a speedy Dupree Hanover off the opening turn. All Class and Bob McClure were looped on the first turn but kept to task to gain control before the quarter as Gingras moved Huntinthelastdolar out from third and quickly regained control through a 26 3/5 opening fraction.
Lost in the early skirmish but electing to remain parked was the race favorite No Control with Louis-Philippe Roy, followed by Ervin Hanover and Blue Hunt. No Control was able to move towards the leader in the second turn, with Gingras getting to the half in 54 4/5 with Huntinthelastdolar. A 27 3/5 third quarter set by the leader kept the outer flow in check as Ervin Hanover moved three-wide but didn't gain much ground on the leader through a 1:22 2/5 clocking.

Gingras called on the Per Engblom-trained Huntinthelastdolar on the final turn, and he took off impressively, opening ground on the outer tier and leaving stablemate All Class room to challenge but not enough real estate to cut into the margin significantly. With a 27 3/5 final quarter, Huntinthelastdolar sealed the victory, with All Class clear for second and Seven Colors gaining stoutly for driver Dexter Dunn in third. Blue Hunt ducked to the inside in the stretch to nail the fourth spot, just ahead of a determined No Control, who settled for fifth after being parked the distance.
Owned by E Rive Racing and John Fielding, Huntinthelastdolar was a winner for the second time in four starts as a 4-year-old, and as the second choice returned $6 to win.
In the C$50,000 Margaret Juravinski Memorial Invitational, Talk Curdy To Me rallied strongly from a second over trip to collar pace-setter Glenboro in the stretch for driver James MacDonald. The 4-year-old by Betterthancheddar scored in 1:52 4/5 for owner Pollack Racing LLC. and trainer David Menary. Glenboro finished second, with Ima Doll third in the mile.
