Flamboro: Awesome Hill delivers in Margaret Juravinski Invitational
3-5 favorite Awesome Hill overcame post eight and a first-over grind that started before the half to win Sunday night's $50,000 Margaret Juravinski Invitational for 4-year-old pacing mares at Flamboro Downs.
Driven by Doug McNair, Awesome Hill left some from post eight and was able to tuck into fourth coming off the first turn. Meantime, Beach Moment (Yannick Gingras), a 31-1 offering, blasted to the top from post seven and carved out an opening quarter of 27 3/5. Beach Moment would continue on the engine to a 56 2/5 half, with Awesome Hill and McNair moving out first-over heading to that station.
Beach Moment was able to cling to command at the 1:24 3/5 three-quarters, but Awesome Hill had moved up into second at that point and then forged her way to a narrow advantage on the final bend. Awesome Hill would turn for home first while still two-wide, and she was able to hold off a passing lane bid by pocket-sitter Mystifying (Jonathan Drury) to win by a head in 1:53 4/5. Beach Moment was a game third.
