Five-time stakes winner Terra Promessa retired

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Terra Promessa, who won four stakes races Oaklawn Park, has been retired, according to her trainer, Steve Asmussen. He said she has returned home to the Kentucky operation of her breeder and owner, Stonestreet Stables.
Terra Promessa retires with a record of 7 wins from 16 starts for earnings of $920,350. She is a 5-year-old by Curlin – the two-time Horse of the Year who raced for Stonestreet and was trained by Asmussen – and she is out of the multiple stakes-winning mare Missile Bay.
“Loved having her in the barn – just being a daughter Curlin running in the Stonestreet silks,” Asmussen said. “She was obviously a very special filly that hopefully will be a special broodmare.”
Terra Promessa participated in the Oaklawn stakes program from 3 to 5. She won the Grade 3 Honeybee and Grade 3 Fantasy in 2016. The next year, Terra Promessa captured the track’s Pippin and Grade 3 Bayakoa and also ran second to champion Stellar Wind in the Grade 1 Apple Blossom. She was back at Oaklawn this meet and ran second in the Bayakoa and fifth in the Grade 2 Azeri in her last start on March 17.
Asmussen called Terra Promessa “tough, like Curlin,” and said she had a “a gorgeous way of moving.”
Terra Promessa won five stakes races in her career, with her other stakes victory coming at Pimlico in last year’s Grade 3 Allaire DuPont Distaff.
