Five tied for fastest furlong at conclusion of F-T Midlantic breeze show
The pre-sale under-tack show for the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic sale of 2-year-olds in training concluded with a crowded leaderboard. Five juveniles – including one by perennial leading juvenile sire Into Mischief and two representatives for this year's strong freshman class – tied for the fastest furlong, the traditional measure for these preview shows, at 10 seconds flat.
After an Into Mischief filly worked in 10 seconds during Wednesday's session at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, juveniles by freshman sires The Big Beast and Wicked Strong and established stallions Flatter and Violence all matched that mark during Thursday's last of three sessions.
The bullet-working Into Mischief filly, consigned by Bobby Dodd as agent, is out of the stakes-placed Kafwain mare Peggy Jayne. The mare is the dam of one winner from two starters. Grade 1-placed Dynamic Sky and Top Decile appear on this catalog page.
Grade 1-winning sprinter The Big Beast, who recorded his first winner as a sire Kentucky Derby week at Churchill Downs, was represented by a filly from the Wavertree Stables consignment. The Florida-bred by the Ocala Stud stallion is out of the winning Exchange Rate mare Therese, who has produced two winners from as many runners.
Grade 1 winner Wicked Strong, who stands alongside Into Mischief at Spendthrift, recorded his first winner during the Keeneland meet. His bullet worker, also consigned by Dodd, as agent, is the first foal out of the winning Flatter mare With Wonder.
Flatter, who stands at Claiborne Farm, had a solid day as both the sire and broodmare sire of a bullet worker. His colt, consigned by Sequel Bloodstock, is out of the stakes-placed Salt Lake mare Veronica's Lake, dam of two winners from two starters.
A New York-bred filly by Hill 'n' Dale stallion Violence rounded out the group of bullet workers. Consigned by Crupi's New Castle Farm, as agent, she is out of the winning Not For Love mare Significant Other, making her a half sister to stakes winner Marriedtothemusic.
A smaller group of juveniles worked a quarter-mile as opposed to the traditional furlong, and those stretching out also created a logjam on their leaderboard, with eight horses tied for the fastest time at 21 3/5 seconds.
Into Mischief was the only stallion represented in both the furlong and quarter bullet-worker groups. His colt tied for that time is consigned by Top Line Sales as agent. He is out of the winning Latent Heat mare Nihilist, who is from the family of Grade 1 winners Dowsing, Ermine, Fire the Groom, and Sakhee's Secret.
Freshman sires Bayern, standing at Hill 'n' Dale, Daredevil, at WinStar Farm, and Palace Malice, standing at Three Chimneys, also had workers tied for the fastest quarter. Rounding out the octet are juveniles by Awesome Again, Cairo Prince, Street Sense, and Union Rags.
