Five Pics Please seeks stakes breakthrough in Bold Ego Handicap
Five Pics Please will spot her rivals between three and eight pounds each when she seeks to nail down the first stakes win of her career in the $65,000 Bold Ego Handicap on Sunday at Sunland Park.
The 5 1/2-furlong race for fillies and mares is one of two stakes on the card. The $100,000 Corralito Steak House for 3-year-olds bred in New Mexico drew a full field of 11.
Five Pics Please is the 120-pound highweight in the eight-horse Bold Ego. She comes into the race off a runner-up finish in the $60,000 Sun Devil Sprint on Dec. 16 at Turf Paradise. Five Pics Please was beaten a neck. It’s one of two close stakes calls she’s had in her career, the other coming at Santa Anita. She was second by a half-length in the Grade 3 Sweet Life back in February.
Five Pics Please, who is a daughter of Cinco Charlie and the mare No Pictures Please, races for Desert Sun Stables. She’s trained by Robertino Diodoro. The speed horse will break outside of her other pace rivals when she starts from post 7.
Harking is the second highweight at 117 pounds. She’s made her last two starts at Turf Paradise, running second in an allowance on Dec. 22 and third in the Coady Memorial Stakes on Nov. 6. Enrique Gomez has the mount for Bennie “Chip” Woolley, who is known best as the trainer of Kentucky Derby winner Mine That Bird.
Fly in Falynn, who is weighted at 116, was third in the $75,000 Zia Park Distaff in her last start Nov. 23. The runner-up from the race, Casual, came back to win the $100,000 She’s All In Stakes at Remington Park in December.
Wheres Brayden will be looking for his third consecutive stakes win when he starts in the Corralito Steak House over six furlongs. He won at that distance two starts ago in the New Mexico Cup Juvenile on Oct. 31, then moved to two turns last out and won the $100,000 Steve Prather on Dec. 13. Both races were at Zia Park.
The chief threat could be fellow stakes winner Bye Bye Matty. He is coming off a Dec. 5 allowance win at Zia, and the Beyer Speed Figure of 69 that he earned for his effort in the 5 1/2-furlong race is the best career number in the Corralito Steak House.
