There is no shortage of bets linking the major stakes at Santa Anita this weekend.
In an effort to promote Saturday’s California Crown program, and the first weekend of the track’s fall meeting, Santa Anita is offering five bets with 15 percent takeouts, lower than the standard rate of 23.68 for other multi-race bets such as the pick three or pick six.
On Saturday, there is a $1 all-stakes pick five encompassing the day’s stakes races – the Unzip Me, John Henry Turf Championship, Eddie D Stakes, California Crown, and City of Hope Mile. The bet has a mandatory payout.
A $1 pick six featuring all graded stakes will include the John Henry Turf Championship, Eddie D, California Crown, and City of Hope Mile with two stakes on Sunday – the Santa Anita Sprint Championship and Zenyatta Stakes. The bet also has a mandatory payout.
There are $5 doubles linking the Eddie D Stakes with the Santa Anita Sprint Championship, and the California Crown and Zenyatta Stakes.
A $2 pick four will connect the Eddie D, California Crown, Santa Anita Sprint Championship, and Zenyatta.
The John Henry Turf Championship, Eddie D Stakes, California Crown, and City of Hope Mile will be simulcast by the Hong Kong Jockey Club, with betting conducted in a separate pool. The races will be held on Sunday morning in Hong Kong.
On Aug. 31, three races on the Pacific Classic program at Del Mar were simulcast to Hong Kong, resulting in a hefty handle of $5.43 million.
