Five Green Stars may be right value play in Sunday feature
RACE REPLAY IS NOT AVAILABLEThe feature comes early on Sunday’s eight-race Mother’s Day card, which, barring bad weather, will be run before one of the largest Arlington crowds of the season.
Race 2 is a second-level allowance with a $40,000 claiming option carded for 1 1/16 miles on Polytrack that attracted seven entrants. Early speed for a great part of the 2015 Arlington meet was absolutely golden in two-turn main-track races, but this is a new year, and unless there is a bias, neither of the likely leaders, Bordini and Y Ya Gottabedatway, should be there at the end.
The most proven Polytrack horse is Francois, but he’s drawn outside and could be hung wide with a short run to the first turn, and at age 7, he’s not the horse he was at his peak a couple of years ago, either. Crown the Kitten, drawn in post 2 with Jose Valdivia up for Wesley Ward, has the right style to get a favorable trip but probably will be bet below fair value.
But Five Green Stars, who has the rail, figures to be a fair price. He has not run as well on Polytrack as he has on dirt, but Five Green Stars does have an Arlington main-track win, and trainer Mike Reavis can have a horse like Five Green Stars ready for his first start after a layoff.
