Warren’s Showgirl has the pedigree to play a meaningful role in the 2-year-old filly division at Del Mar this summer. It may not happen when she has her career debut in a maiden special weight race for California-breds at five furlongs on dirt Sunday. “I think she’s going to be better with two turns and maybe grass,” trainer Craig Lewis said on Friday. “She’s a nice filly. I hope she surprises me. Five furlongs appears to be a little short.” Warren’s Showgirl, owned by breeders Ben and Sally Warren, is a full sister to Warren’s Showtime, a six-time stakes winner who has earned $697,431. In Sunday’s maiden race, the Warrens and Lewis also start Warren’s Queen Bee, who has worked with Warren’s Showgirl and is the more forward of the pair. :: Access morning workout reports straight from the tracks and get an edge with DRF Clocker Reports “She acts pretty quick,” Lewis said. “In those works, we never had them fully extended. It was just to educate them and get them ready to run.” Warren’s Queen Bee is part of a field of nine led by Ko Olina, who finished first in a maiden special weight race at five furlongs against open company at Santa Anita on June 19, but was disqualified and placed second for causing interference. Trained by Luis Mendez for CTR Stables, Ko Olina was listed as a buyback for $245,000 at the Fasig-Tipton California 2-year-olds in-training sale on June 23.
