ELMONT, N.Y. – The lightly raced Looking At Bikinis and the frequently raced Not That Brady head a field of six 3-year-olds looking to use a first-level allowance race Thursday at Belmont Park to potentially bigger and better things this summer. Last Sept. 9, Looking At Bikinis, trained by Chad Brown, won his debut going 6 1/2 furlongs by 5 3/4 lengths at Belmont Park. He was being pointed to the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity at Keeneland in early October but was injured in his final work before that race, Brown said. “He’s come back and trained really well after a lot of time off,” Brown said. “Hopefully, this is a starting point for a good 3-year-old campaign for him.” Looking at Bikinis began working at the Fair Hill Training Center in April before moving up to Saratoga, where he’s breezed seven times. “We got as much into him as we could,” Brown said. “Is he fully cranked? No, but he’s training particularly well where I feel like he’s fit enough to potentially win.” The New York-bred Not That Brady spent the winter at Aqueduct trying to qualify for the Kentucky Derby. After running second to Tax in the Grade 3 Withers, he was last in the Grade 3 Gotham while battling a quarter crack the week before the race, and then fifth in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial. :: Shop for PPs, picks, DRF+ and more in our store! Trainer Rudy Rodriguez said he backed off Not That Brady for a few weeks and he is using this one-turn mile race to get to the $150,000 New York Derby, a two-turn 1 1/16-mile race at Finger Lakes on July 20. “I don’t need to win this race,” Rodriguez said. “I want to win the New York Derby. Wednesday’s race carries an optional-claiming provision where a horse can be taken for a $100,000 tag. Federal Case is one of two horses entered for the tag. He won a one-turn mile allowance race at Gulfstream in December. Most recently, he finished last in the Grade 3 Peter Pan here May 11. Family Biz, Overdeliver, and Twelfthofneverland, the other horse in for the tag, complete the field.
