First Down Toro wins LQHBA Futurity

First Down Toro won the richest race ever run at Evangeline Downs on Saturday night, when he held for a nose win over favorite Heza Fast Classic in the $517,969 Louisiana Quarter Horse Breeders' Association Futurity. It was another head back in third to Bottle of Shine.

First Down Toro ($17.80) broke on top in the 400-yard race for 2-year-olds, and won in a time of 20.11 seconds. Eddie Cox was aboard the winner for trainer Matt Baker. First Down Toro earned $221,387 for the victory, which was his third from five career starts. He races for his breeders, Gene and Kathyrn Smith.

The LQHBA Futurity closed out the Quarter Horse meet at Evangeline.
