First-crop sires well represented at Texas 2-year-old sale
The Texas 2-year-olds in training sale Wednesday at Lone Star Park near Dallas features prospects from the first crop of a number of young stallions, including Practical Joke, Klimt, and Lord Nelson. The auction will be held in the sales pavilion at the entrance to the stable area and starts at noon.
The under-tack show is Monday. It begins at 10 a.m. and also will be held at Lone Star. There are 122 horses cataloged to the sale, which is a joint venture between Lone Star and the Texas Thoroughbred Association.
“After being forced to cancel last year’s 2-year-old [sale] due to COVID-19, we are very pleased to get back on track this year, especially with the excitement from the increased overnight purses in Texas and the strong stakes schedule coming up at Lone Star Park,” sales director Tim Boyce said in a press release from the TTA.
Lone Star opens its meet April 22 and opened its stable area Friday. Sam Houston Race Park in Houston closes its meet Saturday.
Klimt, who won the Grade 1 Del Mar Futurity, has a handful of offspring in the sale, starting with the Hip No. 1 on Wednesday. There also are offerings from the first crops of American Freedom, Bal A Bali, Danzing Candy, El Deal, Gormley, Midnight Storm, Mo Tom, and Texas Chrome.
Other stallions represented in the sale include California Chrome, Empire Maker, Goldencents, Midshipman, and Street Sense. Consignors include Asmussen Horse Center, Benchmark Training Center, Bryan Ford Training Stable, Pike Racing, and Twin Oaks Training Center.
