Firing Line works toward Robert Lewis Stakes
ARCADIA, Calif. – Firing Line, second Dec. 20 in the Grade 1 Los Alamitos Futurity, worked five furlongs in 1:00.60 Saturday.
Owned by Arnold Zetcher and trained by Simon Callaghan, Firing Line is a candidate for the $150,000 Robert Lewis Stakes at 1 1/16 miles Feb. 7.
The workout was slower than a five-furlong clocking by Firing Line in 59.80 seconds Jan. 17, which Callaghan said was by design.
“He went strongly the week before so went a little on the easy side,” Callaghan said. “He was nice and relaxed, and that’s the main thing.”
Firing Line has one win in three starts and earnings of $144,800.
The Gomper, second in an optional claimer Dec. 31, worked six furlongs in 1:13. Trained by Ron Ellis, The Gomper is a candidate for the Lewis, which would be his stakes debut and first start around two turns.
