Firing Line sharp in final work for Sunland Derby
ARCADIA, Calif. – Firing Line is all set for next Sunday's Sunland Derby at Sunland Park after working five furlongs in 59.80 seconds Sunday morning at Santa Anita, a drill in which he could not have been going easier under exercise rider Paul Eddery.
"We've always liked him. He's a class horse," said Eddery, the former jockey and brother of ex-jockey Pat. "He's a very good work horse. We're very happy with him."
Firing Line will travel to Sunland on Friday with a large contingent of horses from Southern California, including Lord Nelson. Also heading to Sunland, for the Sunland Oaks, is the filly Callback.
Gary Stevens has the mount on Firing Line in the Sunland Derby.
Firing Line was second in his last two starts to Dortmund, suffering narrow losses in both the Robert Lewis and Los Alamitos Futurity. He is trained by Simon Callaghan.
