Fire Fast Honey dominates Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity by two lengths
Fire Fast Honey, fourth and second in her first two starts in April, won the first futurity of 2021 at Los Alamitos with a commanding performance in Sunday’s $297,900 Robert Adair Kindergarten Futurity at 300 yards.
Ridden by Armando Cervantes, Fire Fast Honey ($31) had a perfect start and quickly pulled clear by two lengths. With no rivals close, Cervantes allowed the filly to run freely, drifting to the inside through the final 150 yards.
Fire Fast Honey won by two lengths over 7-1 Southern Best, and was timed in 15.37 seconds.
Southern Best was the best-placed of three runners trained by Jaime Gomez, who has won the Kindergarten a record eight times. Southern Best was bumped at the start, but recovered quickly.
Beduinos Surprise (12-1) finished third despite bumping with a rival at the start. Midnite Fling, the 5-2 favorite, finished seventh in a field of nine, and was never a factor. Val Frida, the fastest qualifier from the time trials, finished fifth after a slow start.
There were 10 qualifiers from time trials on April 25, but Valente One was placed on the California Horse Racing Board’s veterinarian list a few days after the trials and did not start on Sunday.
Fire Fast Honey earned $125,118 for owners Randy Young and Dennis Jensen of Utah and trainer Monty Arrossa.
By Walk Thru Fire, Fire Fast Honey was fourth in a maiden race at 220 yards in her debut on April 2 and second in the Kindergarten time trials on April 25.
Arrossa said Fire Fast Honey will be pointed for the Governor’s Cup Futurity, which has time trials on July 10 and a final on July 31.
