Finnegans Wake points to Woodford Reserve at Churchill

Finnegans Wake, who won three consecutive turf stakes from late November to early February but was second in the Grade 2 San Luis Rey Stakes on March 21, is bound for Kentucky.

Trainer Peter Miller said on Sunday that Finnegans Wake will run in the $500,000 Woodford Reserve Turf at 1 1/8 miles on turf at Churchill Downs on May 2, the Kentucky Derby program.

Owned by Donegal Racing and Rockingham Ranch, Finnegans Wake was beaten 2 1/4 lengths by Ashleyluvssugar in the San Luis Rey Stakes. Prior to that race, Finnegans Wake won three consecutive Grade 2 races – the Hollywood Turf Cup at Del Mar in November, the San Gabriel Stakes at Santa Anita in January, and the San Marcos Stakes in February.

Finnegans Wake has won 6 of 28 starts and earned $1,105,375.
