Fingal's Cave might risk perfect record in Cotillion at Parx

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Fingal’s Cave, the undefeated New York-bred 3-year-old filly, could make her next start in the Grade 1, $1 million Cotillion at Parx on Sept. 24, trainer David Donk said Friday.
Donk said he planned to work Fingal’s Cave at Belmont over the weekend and would enter the filly in the Cotillion on Monday. That will give Donk ample time to study the field and see if he wants to take a swing.
“I don’t want to throw her to the wolves, but I need to look at that field,” Donk said. “At some point I’m going to run her in a tough spot. I don’t have anything to lose.”
Fingal’s Cave is 4 for 4 with three of those wins coming against New York-bred company, including a half-length victory in the Fleet Indian Stakes at 1 1/8 miles. The Cotillion is run at 1 1/16 miles around two turns.
Fingal’s Cave did win a nine-furlong open-company allowance race at Saratoga.
Among those looking at the Cotillion are Kentucky Oaks winner Secret Oath, who twice finished second to Nest, in the Coaching Club American Oaks and the Alabama. A D. Wayne Lukas trainee, Secret Oath worked five furlongs in 1:01.81 over the Oklahoma training track Friday at Saratoga.
Others pointing to the race include Adare Manor, Beach Daze, Gerrymander, Goddess of Fire, Green Up, Midnight Stroll, Morning Matcha, Shahama and Society.
