Finality's Charmer done for year

VANCOUVER, British Columbia – Finality’s Charmer, who won the $100,000 Sadie Diamond Futurity for trainer Craig MacPherson last Sunday, is done for the year. The only race left for the 2-year-old filly at Hastings is the $75,000 Fantasy on Oct. 13, and MacPherson thinks she probably isn’t ready to carry her substantial speed 1 1/16 miles just yet. The Fantasy and Ascot Graduation are part of the undercard that supports the Grade 3 Premier’s and Grade 3 Ballerina.
Finality’s Charmer was looking for the wire when she held off the late-charging Splendid Scat by a half-length in the 6 1/2-furlong Sadie Diamond, and 1 1/16 miles does seem beyond her reach.
“I think it was more that Finality’s Charmer was stopping than Splendid Scat was coming,” MacPherson said. “Finality’s Charmer has done enough this year. I don’t know if she can, but we’ll find out if she can go long when she’s a 3-year-old.”
MacPherson also trains Splendid Scat, who will probably run in the Fantasy.
“She will need to be supplemented, but I think it’s worth taking a shot at it,” he said. “She came out of the race in good shape, and she acts like a horse that won’t have any trouble going a route of ground.”
Owner Charlie Maze will need to make a supplementary payment of $3,750 in order for Splendid Scat to run.
