Final times revised for Florida Sire Series stakes; Octane gets 92 a Beyer

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – After a revision of the final times following a malfunction of the timing system during the running of both Florida Sire Series stakes decided here Saturday, Octane has been awarded a 92 Beyer Speed Figure for his victory in the $400,000 In Reality while Outfoxed received a 70 for her easy win in the $40,000 My Dear Girl.
Both races were run at 1 1/16 miles, with Octane’s final time nearly 2.4 seconds faster than Outfoxed covered the same distance an hour earlier over the fast track.
“That’s a pretty big number,” said Brian Cohen, stable manager for Arindel, which is owned by his father, Alan Cohen, who owns and bred Octane. “I guess off of that we’ll have to consider the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile. I want to talk to Carlos [trainer Carlos David] and also see how next week’s preps turn out before we make any decision. But if we think he has a shot to get in the money, we like to take chances, we could go.”
Arindel has had two previous Breeders’ Cup starters, including Blonde Bomber who finished third in the 2017 Juvenile Fillies at Del Mar for trainer Stanley Gold.
Octane’s victory in the In Reality capped a big meet for Arindel, who was the leading owner during the spring-summer session that ended Sunday.
Both jockey Edgard Zayas and trainer Saffie Joseph Jr. successfully defended their spring-summer titles. Zayas survived a close battle with 2018 spring-summer titlist Emisael Jaramillo before coming out on top 121-116 in the race for the jockey crown.
Joseph ran away with the trainers’ championship with 71 victories, more than double the total posted by runner-up David. Antonio Sano finished third.
